Mining students test tire strength and life

Mining

Our program includes the Alberta Chamber of Resources Chair in Mining Engineering, the Canada Research Chair in Natural Resources Uncertainty Management and the Centre for Computational Geostatistics.

Mining engineers design surface and underground mines, supervise the construction of mine shafts and tunnels in underground operations, and devise methods for transporting minerals to processing plants. Students take courses in blasting/explosives, rock mechanics, economics, all branches of mining, business and environmental issues as well as core engineering courses in mechanical, civil, electrical and chemical engineering.

Career Possibilities:

  • Modeling resources
  • Planning safe and cost-effective extraction
  • Consulting
  • Government
  • Banking institutions
  • Legal advisor
