International Students

The following scholarships are awarded for recruitment purposes. There is no application process as students are nominated by the department to FGSR.

University of Alberta Doctoral Scholarships: Students do not need to apply for Recruitment Scholarships; department recommends and nominates eligible students to FGSR. Admission gpa must be at least 3.7 to be eligible for consideration.

University of Alberta Master's Scholarship: Offered for one year at a value of $17,000 plus tuition and fees. Admission gpa must be at least 3.7 to be eligible for consideration.

Alberta Doctoral Awards for Chinese Students: The Alberta Doctoral Awards for Chinese Students provide funding for promising Chinese students entering a full-time PhD degree program in the areas of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Nanotechnology, Genomics, Proteomics, Metabolomics, Transcriptomics and Regulomics; in and of themselves, or additionally supporting the areas of Health, Bio-industries, or Energy and the Environment. These awards add to the strong academic exchange and research cooperation that exists between Alberta and the People's Republic of China.

Note: This program will not support medical or health-related research initiatives that qualify for support from the Alberta Innovates – Health Solutions (AIHS), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR),or similar medical research agencies. Candidates performing research that is clearly health-related must apply directly to AIHS, CIHR or similar medical research agencies.

To be eligible to receive an ADACS Award a student must be a citizen of, reside in and apply from the People's Republic of China; applicants may have completed studies outside of China but not have undertaken any previous post-secondary studies in Alberta at time of application; and have gained admission to full-time PhD degree program at the University of Alberta.

Alberta Innovates -Technology Futures Graduate Student Scholarships: The Alberta Innovates Graduate Student Scholarships program (GSS) is designed to enable promising students to succeed in areas of scientific research which are strategically important to Alberta. These areas are: Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Nanotechnology, and Omics; (Omics consists of: Genomics, Proteomics, Metabolomics, Transcriptomics and Regulomics.) in and of themselves or additionally which support the areas of Health, Bio-industries, Energy and Environment.

The scholarship is intended to support the recipient in concentrating his/her full time to the proposed research. Application deadline each year is in February. Contact department for details.
